"Dirty Raven became one of the leading groups of a French-style stoner who had nothing to envy the combos on the other side of the Atlantic."
CALGEPO - 17.06.2019 -
After 2 EPs that allowed to unblock a thundering start to their career, this third records from Dirty Raven nder the name of "Rust For Blue" was born after a successful fundraising campaign. The band is composed of three members, which already gives an indication of a musical orientation reduced to its simplest device, looking towards a direct and offensive rock.

The architecture of the EP is based on five relatively long blocks that are almost every five minutes, which allows interesting developments and above all provides some nuances. Because if the album is energetic, it is not without more contrasting movements like a "U.F.O." that bears its name well. The rather psychedelic introduction brings a very particular relief to the stoner proposed by Dirty Raven. But the atmosphere evolves towards murderous and fat riffs that remind us of the very essence of the genre. The band has more direct assets, notably in a "Hell On Hells" in which Bernard's voice, raucous as one would wish, works wonders in a track with a high rhythmic quality. This track is of a formidable effectiveness between the hardness of the stoner, the accessibility of an addictive chorus and a thundering instrumental conclusion.

If there is not necessarily a revolution compared to the previous albums, the band evolves and does not hesitate to venture into progressive countries with "Hypocrisy" which, with its seven minutes, brings a singular development. The first half is unadorned and totally powerful to become a little more atmospheric (relatively) in a second movement, almost post-rock. The rhythmic in this track takes on its full meaning by creating a solid structure and in constant search for variety.

Without necessarily changing, Dirty Raven brings with "Rust For Blue" rather well-thought-out evolutions that perpetuate a growing interest in the band. The trio thus became one of the leading groups of a French-style stoner who had nothing to envy the combos on the other side of the Atlantic.
