""The Red Rose" is a delicate and diversified pop album whose success is based on a mix of ambiences from the rock and folk worlds."
DARIALYS - 19.03.2019 -
Fearless continues its journey after the release of "Enter The Prince" in 2013 and "Shadows On A Stage" in 2015. The Rouen-based quartet defines itself as an expressionist rock band. And for good reason, the music delivered by the combo is characterized by a melodious pop/rock with British and Celtic influences punctuated by texts inspired by Anglo-Saxon literature. The story of Fearless's third production, "The Red Rose", came to the mind of composer Renaud Vallon after losing a loved one. Each of the seven tracks tells the story of a young woman's sentimental journey strewn with pitfalls, the central character of the album.

Musically speaking, "The Red Rose" is a varied opus. The first few seconds of 'Starting Over' could be reminiscent of Gordon Lightfoot's signature, before moving on to pop music with a funky guitar. The air is immediate, the chorus jumping, the guitar phrases catchy. The album starts under the best auspices. On the eponymous track, 'The Red Rose', the atmosphere is a little stronger with a crunchy guitar riff reminiscent of the Beatles ''Day Tripper' for a very rock song. Here again, the chorus is certainly the central piece of the piece, with a more hushed and atmospheric atmosphere, in contrast to the theme of the piece. The presence of a very good blues keyboard solo makes this track one of the strongest on the album.

The rest of the time, "The Red Rose" is more nuanced and restrained, like the short interlude "Dreamy Colors", sung for two voices, led by a guitar-piano duo. This atmosphere continues on the ballad "Passing Stranger" and its melody well found. A soft folk guitar accompanies Renaud Vallon's voice and keyboard interventions are always very appropriate. On 'Sonnet 18', the piano even plays the role of central instrument to conclude the album and expresses itself as usual in a sentimental and voluptuous register.

The red rose on the album cover is finally in the image of the Rouennais' sound and the expressionist dimension advanced by the group takes on its full meaning when listening to the album. With "The Red Rose", Fearless offers an often soothing, refined pop/rock content, where each instrument expresses itself in all simplicity for a very pleasant result. There is no doubt that the person to whom these titles are dedicated would be happy and proud to have inspired these musics to its author. If the half-hour of listening passes quickly, the listener will be reassured when he learns that a new opus already in the process of being written should be released quickly. I can't wait to see what happens next!
