"Despite the departure of the original drummer from the band, "Love Is All You Love" is a fresh and solid record that confirms the qualities of Band Of Skulls."
DARIALYS - 22.05.2019 -
Judging by the name of the band, the uninformed listener could expect to discover with Band Of Skulls a Scandinavian death metal band led by an ultra-fast rhythmic, heavy guitars and throat singing. No way ! The English band officiates in pop/rock!

Initially composed of 3 musicians in 2004, the band's balance was somewhat upset with the departure of drummer Matt Hayward in 2017, one year after the album "By Default". One year after this unfortunate news, the duo of Russell Marsden and Emma Richardson continues unwaveringly on its way with a fifth production: "Love Is All You Love".

Between the pop and rock labels, there are many subgenres that Southampton natives like to exploit. "Love Is All You Love" could have been the first single from the album of the same name. Super catchy with a wonderfull bass groove, the chorus holds itself back and the melody is pleasant. The immediacy of the songs seems to be the main objective of the English duo, and the single "Cool Your Battles" does not deviate from the rule with its addictive and well found chorus.

'Not The Kind Of Nothing' and 'That's My Trouble' are more in an alternative rock vein close to The Black Keys, while the band explores a more electro dimension on 'Sound Of You' and 'Carnivorous' although this is not the greatest success of the album. We will even find a funky dimension on the last song, 'Gold', which is of the highlights of the opus.

It seems that the departure of the third man two years earlier did not disturb the duo, at least not artistically, in this record led by strong tracks that will undoubtedly become a must on stage. After fifteen years in the business and five albums, the British neo-duo seems to be in excellent shape! For amateurs, also discover the collaboration of the English with their compatriots from Archive, on the track "Remains Of Nothing", released on their new album, "Retrospective".
