"As a pretext for a tour with many guest singers, this opus proves to be of no interest and only on very rare occasions does it compare to the original titles."

After a successful start to his career, which saw him become Scorpions' competitor with albums such as "Fireworks" (1987) or "Point Blank" (1989), Bonfire never succeeded in confirming but delivering disappointing or simply correct albums. Particularly targeted, the singer's position has nevertheless seen stars such as Claus Lessmann, David Reece and Michael Bormann. For the past two years, Alexx Stahl has been in charge of the microphone and is therefore the one who officiates on this new recording. Used to the exercise of covers, Bonfire draws 32 covers here for more than two and a half hours of music.

Barely two years after a "Pearls" who already saw them take over their own repertoire with their current line-up, the question arises as to the real interest of such an release. Indeed, the exercise can eventually be interesting if it is done within the framework of a title surrounded by original compositions or, and especially if it brings something more to the original version.

Unfortunately, the Toto covers that open this opus are proof that Bonfire was not aware of the risk he was taking. If Alexx Stahl is not Bobby Kimball, he somehow manages to avoid a ridiculous situation in which his fellow guitarists are locked up with, among other things, a shred solo on 'Africa' of a distressingly ridiculous nature. To stand up to Steve Lukather, you need a minimum of finesse that the combo doesn't seem to have ('Rosanna', light as a pachyderm after his dinner). The proof is that only the heaviest titles manage without too much damage, even if Stahl struggles a little bit in the high notes on some titles ('Rebellion'). On the other hand, as soon as you have to deal with more melodic formations, the massacre is not far away, even obvious ('Tears In The Rain', 'Hallelujah', 'Love Don't Lie'...). And to close the whole, the presence at the end of the album of three tracks by Quaster, an occult German formation, leaves doubt as to its interest.

If this analysis seems harsh to you, it is because it concerns a training that the experience should have protected against such a shipwreck. Of course, all this can be heard as part of a festive and "watered" evening, but the interest of such a production is simply non-existent.
