"A talented and heterogeneous jack-of-all-trades singer Andi Kravljaca is also a fine guitarist. His first instrumental guitar EP "Ocular" is another success to put to his credit."

Andi Kravljaca is a singer with important vocal skills who have opened up no less than five groups to him, the best known of which are Aeon Zen, Seventh Wonder and Silent Call. But the Bosnian-born Swedish also has degrees in particle physics, meteorology and educational sciences. He is also at ease behind an aircraft neck, since he is a seasoned pilot, as well as with a guitar neck and has been the edge on many albums. It will come as no surprise if he decided to embark on the instrumental adventure under the name of Bioplan with a first EP entitled "Ocular".

It doesn't matter that the format of the EP is short and Andi refines it and builds it like an LP with a short neoclassical launch pad "Astral" to enthrone a progressive and epic "Investive" which, while not displaying great originality, accurately spines all the codes of the genre. The other two pieces are in line with the tortuous "Permeant" which starts as a Planet X title and makes the listener take off during the more aerial passages and "Inclement" with its well-cultivated darkness and its alternating round tones and heavy saturations. Refractive' displays more intimacy, less blade and synthesizers that provide this 80's tone without bad taste. In addition to being gifted Andi is generous and he slips a bonus track in the form of bold remixes and shifted from "Invective" in electro mode, to stay in the synthetic theme touched on in the previous track.

Andi's technical performance is admirable but never excessive and the melodic research is permanent. It should be added that the Swede is admirably assisted by an army of musicians who come to lend him a hand. If the EP format still leaves an "Ocular" question space, it remains a good quality glimpse of what an LP album could be. Andi Kravljaca is inevitably gifted, but conscientiously he does not go blindly in any direction. It is the whole virtue of this first convincing essay that arouses interest in a more elaborate future work.

PAUL GILBERT: Behold Electric Guitar (2019)
GUITAR HERO For his fifteenth album, Paul Gilbert opted for a radical orientation: the primacy of melody over velocity, purity of sound and group spirit. "Behold Electric Guitar" is a condensed fusion of blues, jazz and rock that is really worth listening to.
