DeathAwaits is a death band with deathcore influences which released three albums ("Out of Adversity", "The Abominable", "Solve Coagula"). "Solve Coagula", his last one, had received good reviews from Music Waves who noted his technical mastery and his staggering violence. Two years later, the band returned with "Rapture Smites", a reinforced concrete album, as hot as embers.

'Barbaric Decadence' starts off smoothly with martial lyrics and a tribal rhythm worthy of Sepultura. Then cries resound in this edifice in balance between old school, modern deathcore and thrash/death. 'Look Thy Neighbour' is a lead and fire track close to Dismember or Benediction. The band plays with contrasts, terrorising as well as attracting. The variety of vocal lines catches the attention, between cavernous grunts, piercing screams and grandiloquent recitations. The guitar delivers concrete riffs and the melodically devoid solitary interventions follow in the footsteps of Morbid Angel. With 'Trumpeting Butchery' starts a triptych with a fast rhythm, an acid voice and a solitary guitar worthy of Suffocation. However, from this molasses there is a persistent groove feeling.

The second part is like an unhealthy country walk with a soft guitar that stretches out a mysterious mist. Finally, the last part goes back to the basics of the beginning: relentless riffs, crushing drums and shouted vocals, while a melodic hint stand out in this gloomy opacity. The following tracks ('Evergreen Horse', 'Circling The Drain', 'Shrine Of Mediocrity') are in the same vein: fast rhythms, technical guitars, screams piercing the darkness and dissonant harmonies. Finally 'Karmageddon' turns to a little more complexity, because even if the rhythm is lively, the band seems to broaden its horizon with multiple variations.

"Rapture Smites" is a good album between thrash, deathcore and death which, even if it doesn't renew the genre, appropriates it with application and confirms all the good we could think of the band. However, let's hope that his personality will shine on his next productions and stand out from his idols, because with such a potential, the band can reach the top.
