"Wanting to play too much musical mille-feuilles, the Swedes lose the listener on the way. A little more simplicity and power would have been welcome."
LYNOTT - 02.01.2020 -
It's already thirteen years since Daniel Flores - the drummer of Mind's Eyes - created The Murder Of My Sweet and nine years since the first album of the combo was released. Fifth opus, "Brave Tin World" is released this winter 2019. Often compared, generously, even abusively, to bands like Within Temptation and Delain, the Swedes are, according to them, working in cinematic metal. To hear them, it would be a question of creating a film noir atmosphere and experience through their music.

After listening to this "Brave Tin World", let's just say that The Murder Of My Sweet is more in the soft symphonic-progressive AOR pop. One would rather think of a mix between Evanescence, Lana Lane and Mind's Eyes.

"Brave Tin World" didn't start off so badly with a 'Tin Soldiers' that diffuses a relative energy, but enough to stay awake, and an appreciable melody even if the changes of rhythm in the middle of the game feel a little bit like a necessary step to avoid remaining linear and show that we are able to "progress", it's ok. But one is bored on 'My Religion' whose melodic attempts fall flat, the symphonic flights hurt the ears and the forced and disorderly breaks of rhythm end up annoying.

'Head Of The Snake' allows the opus to regain some colour. Here the band rediscovers the simplicity of a nice hard FM that can call out. But 'Reasons To Live' falls back into the above mentioned traps. The Murder Of My Sweet complicates his compositions too much, leaving an impression of a bric-a-brac. The seven remaining tracks contain three ballads that are forgotten in the moment, and a 'Hit The Ground' with a median tempo associated with a well-strung chorus that accelerates the rhythm with enthusiasm. Well played, but too few because the three other tracks are too gently pop ('Everyone Wins'), too elusive ('Keeper Of The Faith') or mostly not very exciting ('Worth Fighting For' and its - despite everything - nice chorus).

The Murder Of My Sweet didn't succeed here, at least not as well as on "Divanity" or "Echoes Oh The Aftermath". Wanting to play too much musical mille-feuilles, the Swedes lose the listener on the way. A little more simplicity and power would have been welcome.
