"Following his first album, Oni made pertinent choices by working on the variety of the vocal register and proposing an EP of a reasonable size to better understand his highly technical music based on the explosion of permanent power."

Three years ago, the Canadians made a remarkable entry into the modern metal bands with a metalcore and progressive tendency. While we were waiting for the successor of Ironshore in the form of an LP, it is an EP that the sextet led by Jack Oni offers us.

"Ironshore" had left us with a restless memory of a strong metalcore gust with progressive temptations in a still embryonic form. "Alone" begins with the eponymous title which surprises us with its melodic qualities and its relative temperance in relation to the overflowing energy and technique to which Ironshore had accustomed us. With "Rift" the metalcore takes back its rights in a more balanced track which ensures the technical demonstration. We think more of Periphery when listening to this EP with this similar ability to play on the nuances of voice with a Jack Oni who has significantly expanded his vocal range. This is what provides Oni's music with its reliefs because on the instrumental side it is still mostly monolithic, although some variations can be noted, notably the break with the original synthetic sounds of "Dead Inside" or the Dantean "Faceless Portrait" which ends the EP with an openly progressive composition.

The current trend for EPs is not always justified but in the case of Oni and his metalcore which is taking to the throat it is an appreciable format. In addition, there is the vocal progress of Jack Oni who takes the whole group with him towards a more varied music that suggests an interesting continuation. Oni and his musicians have made our mouth water, all we have to do is wait for the rest of the menu.
